After the war, surplus Quonset huts were sold off by the army to the public. Even though they had been created for almost exclusive use by the military, Quonset huts proved to be at least as useful in peacetime as well. Quonset huts were found to be an effective means of providing cheap housing on a mass scale. Quonset huts were easy enough to manufacture and transport, easier to set up everywhere. Quonset huts made efficient use of space and could be served as highly efficient, economic, pragmatic and ingenious housing structures.
