From my head on metal storage sheds
This explains the name of Quonset huts. Quonset huts are basically semi cylindrical metallic structure which are very light in weight used as a storage house called Quonset huts. Normally an iron sheet or a sheet of other popular alloys of iron is bent to form a semi circular shape and it is further with a layer of Zinc or Tin as the case may be to add to the resistance towards getting corroded. One might be surprised to know that the first developers of Quonset huts were the USA navy and no one else. The reason was very simple that necessity is the mother of all inventions.
