The most relevant factor in their design is to take advantage of shortage of space, so they are designed to ergonometrically make the most efficient possible use of space where it is lacking. The arrangement is intended to fit into corners, and thus takes up very little space for itself. Besides which, another argument in favour is the fact that a breakfast nook looks great. The mere fact that a breakfast nook is small and built for space crunches does not change the fact that it is still elegant and tasteful, and is built to impress. It is not just cramped apartment that need a breakfast nook, they can be installed in any place where effective space management is a going concern.
